Desert Willow golf course is looking for an Assistant Superintendent that has a Turf Management 2- or 4-year certificate, or 4-year Agronomist education. A minimum of two years working as an Assistant Superintendent. We are a senior community, 55 plus, privately owned and operated. Desert Willow is an executive par 3 golf course with 6 par 4 holes and a large training facility. We have 2500 Homes and are in Henderson Nevada. We are looking for a qualified candidate that is motivated and has chosen golf course maintenance as their true passion. Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus, playing and understanding the game of golf a plus.
Assist the superintendent to organize and direct maintenance of all areas within the scope and according to the technical specifications of the contract. Monitor and communicate turfgrass issues associated with moisture, pests, and disease to golf course superintendent.
Supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment assigned to the course.
Experience in golf course management and turf culture.
Procure and manage supplies and materials to support maintenance activities.
Manage golf course maintenance employees. Provide valuable inputs on the interview, hire, training, discipline, and the separation process.
Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
Able to perform basic mathematic calculations, calibrations, and able to convert and understand fractions, decimals, and percentages
Protect the company’s interest through an awareness of and compliance with all applicable regulations including course and company policies. Fulfill administrative duties timely.
Administer all aspects of the Sun City MacDonald Ranch Safety Program and training.
Represent Sun City MacDonald Ranch Golf Maintenance in a positive and professional manner including attitude, appearance, and public relations.
Meet or exceed external and internal customer expectations.
An awareness of the construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on golf course including putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers.
Aptitude for administrative and executive responsibilities including effective oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency.
Familiar with the characteristics and proper use of fertilizers and soil conditioners. Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.
Knowledge of irrigation including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells and automatic controls and drainage. Moisture management and Rain Bird Satellite & IC irrigation system programming and usage. Schedules daily irrigation – This includes ensuring all hand watering and supplemental irrigation is complete as well as programming irrigation computer on a daily basis.
Able to prepare the course for play in accordance with the rules of golf.
Able to evaluate the course from the player's perspective.
Experience with summer to winter wall to wall over seeding with rye grass.
2-4 year degree/certificate in Turf or related Horticultural fields

The Superintendent is responsible for managing the golf course maintenance department day-to-day activities through maintaining quality standards, developing and retaining maintenance employees and exceeding guest expectations. The ideal candidate should have the ability to perform this role in a consistent manner with consideration to a given annual budget.
Primary Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Daily communication with General Manager/Golf Professional on golf course condition and playability.
Promotes Arcis Golf’s philosophies throughout the golf course to both employees and guests.
Conducts monthly golf course audit.
Directs and delegates to Assistant Superintendent, Irrigation Technician, and Mechanic.
Reviews monthly preliminary and final profit / loss statements with General Manager.
Required to keep all permits pertaining to maintenance department up to date.
Must develop and post Maintenance Plan and Maintenance Standards.
Must have knowledge of irrigation systems inclusive of programming, maintenance, trouble shooting, scheduling, moisture control and pump station management.
Must have the ability to trouble shoot agronomic problems that may occur on the golf course.
Must be fully capable of application equipment calibration and operation.
Must have considerable understanding of golf course maintenance equipment.
Responsible for the Human Resources functions of the maintenance department by controlling turnover, motivating employees, focusing on employee development and retention and participating in regular employee meetings.
Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
Ensures golf course is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws.
Qualifications and Skills
2 or 4 year Turf Grass Maintenance degree.
Previous experience in a supervisory role.
Five to eight years previous golf course experience with progressive responsibility.
